Chapter 30
by LhaoziChapter 30: The Villain Dies from Talking Too Much
Chen Liang actually wasn’t dead!
To survive such a violent explosion—Qin Xi couldn’t help but marvel slightly. As expected of someone possessing the fate of rebirth!
However, this was merely his dying gasp!
Adjusting the Standard Machete in her grip to a more comfortable position, Qin Xi walked onto the rubble.
She looked down at the man trapped halfway beneath the ruins. Her mind was filled entirely with memories of her past life right before death—the agonizing pain of this very man dragging her by the hair and slamming her head into the ground.
She had half a mind to let him taste the agony of a tearing scalp as well.
Taking a deep breath, however, Qin Xi decided to forget it.
After all, the villain dies from talking too much, and she had no desire to play that kind of villain.
Qin Xi slowly raised the machete in her hand toward the man at her feet.
Chen Liang never imagined that in this clash, he would lose so disastrously!
Before he could even square off directly against Qin Song and Qin Xi, he had walked straight into a trap like this.
Had he not used a earth wall to block the blast for a second, he likely would have been dead by now.
The excruciating pain nearly caused him to faint.
Yet seeing the cold reflection off the machete raised above his head, he remained unwilling to accept it.
He had a faint premonition that if he died this time, it would likely be for real!
With trembling hands, he tried to reach for the hem of Qin Xi’s pants, forcing his head up in an effort to squeeze out a smile:
“Qin Xi… Qin Xi, there’s… there’s a misunderstanding between us. I beg you… for the sake of how I used to look after you…”
Before his fingertips could touch that piece of fabric, however, he suddenly felt a cold bite across his hand!
Freezing for a second, he lowered his head slowly, and his blood-stained eyes instantly turned bloodshot:
“AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!”
“MY HAND! MY HAND! AAAAAHHH!!!”
Qin Song had severed his fingers!!
The very fingers he used to channel his supernatural ability!!
“Qin Song! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you! Qin Song!”
Rage made him forget his current predicament. Covered in mouth-spurred blood, he glared down at Qin Song at the base of the rubble, his gaze filled with venomous malice.
Yet the instant his words fell, a flash of cold light swept past, bringing his voice to an abrupt halt!
Bright red blood trickled out from beneath his clothes, seeping into the crevices between the concrete chunks.
Drops of blood dripped off the blade of the machete.
Qin Xi bent her waist, delivering another slash straight into the head of Chen Liang’s corpse to prevent reanimation.
His turning into a zombie wasn’t scary, but if he eventually evolved into a high-level zombie, it would still be a hassle.
Turning around, she scanned the rubble in a circle before stepping down.
Qin Song descended from the other side of the rubble as well; there had been a survivor over on that side just now whom he had taken care of!
Although these henchmen under Chen Liang held no major personal grudge against them, who asked these people to insist on following Chen Liang to hunt them down?
If they released them now, no one could guarantee whether they would seek revenge later.
What’s more, these people weren’t good people to begin with!
Qin Xi and Qin Song conducted a meticulous sweep across the ruins.
Confirming that not a single survivor remained alive, they finally set their minds at ease and left rapidly.
The explosion earlier had been far too loud; they could sense that the zombies in the distant village had already begun gathering toward this direction!
The mutated animals on the mountain had likely noticed it as well; they had to get out of here before those creatures arrived.
Qin Xi and Qin Song moved quickly back toward the single-story mountain house along the mountain path.
Before even arriving, however, they heard a series of growls and shouts from a distance:
“Watch your back, there’s another one!”
“Holy crap, what on earth is this thing?!”
“Hey, you wanna eat me? Take a look at those tiny teeth of yours first!”
When the two sprinted over, they saw that what the three were currently locked in combat with turned out to be two mutated squirrels!
One was kicked flying by Li Zekai, while the other had already climbed onto Bai Hanyue’s shoulder!
Because Bai Hanyue wore a thick raincoat and the mutated squirrel’s mouth was small, it failed to bite through for the moment, allowing Lin Xin to slap it away with a single palm strike!
Bai Hanyue subconsciously exchanged a glance with Lin Xin, both of their eyes carrying the exact same un-settled terror!
Simply slapping it couldn’t kill this thing, though!
Just as the two squirrels were about to charge back at the three, a sharp zzzt sounded!
The two airborne little figures suddenly lost all rigidity like spineless dolls, dangling limply in midair!
Looking closely, one could see a metallic wire piercing straight through the heads of the two zombie squirrels, stringing them together!
Retracting his metallic wire, Qin Song looked at the three and asked:
“Besides that road in front, is there another path down the mountain from here?”
The three froze simultaneously.
Bai Hanyue snapped back to her senses quickly, hurriedly raising her hand to point in the opposite direction:
“There’s a small path over that way leading into the village, but it’s a dirt road.”
Into the village…
Qin Xi and Qin Song looked at each other.
Due to the explosion earlier, the zombies and mutated animals on the mountain peak had gathered toward the rubble side.
The zombies inside the village had actually thinned out, making it considerably safer.
With that thought in mind, Qin Xi nodded at Bai Hanyue:
“Let’s go. We’ll head down the mountain from that way!”
The five acted immediately.
This small path was likely beaten out by villagers going up the mountain in the past.
Having gone unused for a long time now, the path had narrowed significantly, allowing only one person to pass at a time.
Qin Song cleared the path at the front, with Qin Xi following right behind him.
Behind them in sequence were Bai Hanyue, Li Zekai, and Lin Xin.
The road was exceedingly slick and thick with mud; as they walked, the group had to stay alert for mutated animals that might leap out at any moment.
Roughly fifteen minutes later, the group finally made it down the mountain.
Qin Xi still held several shrub saplings and wild weeds she had casually dug up along the mountain path, storing them all into her spatial dimension.
[Ding—Obtained 799 Natural Element points. Task progress: 799/1000.]
The system prompt continued to chime, yet Qin Xi was feeling somewhat stumped.
With zombies gathering over, the nursery stock base was out of bounds for now, yet her Natural Element points hadn’t been fully gathered.
Now she could only hope that the variety of vegetables growing in the villagers’ private gardens inside the village would be a bit richer!
After descending the mountain, the group arrived directly at the far tail-end of the village.
This time, however, Qin Xi didn’t pull out the car.
They entered the courtyard of the very first house at the tail of the village.
The main gate of the courtyard was open from the start; aside from the rain, no other commotion could be felt.
The main house door stood wide open, with a row of sheds along the side filled with stacked clutter!
One could see the layout and situation inside the courtyard at a single glance.
Qin Song and Lin Xin checked the side alleys on the left and right sides of the house respectively. The alleys were clean, and walking around to the backyard, aside from stacked clutter, rice, and flour, the ground was clean as well!
No bloodstains, no corpses.
That left only the main house, whose door stood quietly open.
Qin Xi patted Bai Hanyue’s shoulder:
“Let’s go. Big Brother and I will check the east room, while you three check the west room. Stay safe—if you run into zombies, kill them directly!”
Hearing this, Bai Hanyue nodded, her gaze resolute.
The five stepped into the house one after another, casually turning on all the lights inside, instantly illuminating the rooms.
The east room was very clean and simply furnished, featuring only a brick kang bed-stove, a TV cabinet with a television set, and a solid wood sofa beside it.
On the floor, there were only water tracks left behind from their entry, but no blood.
Yet if there were no zombies, why was the house door standing wide open?
Just as Qin Xi was pondering this, a sudden massive crash erupted from the other bedroom across two kitchen bays:
BANG!!
