Chapter 13: Didn’t Expect That, Did You? I Didn’t Die

The greeting came to an abrupt halt.

The smile on Zhao Yuhao’s face instantly collapsed into sheer panic the moment he saw Qin Song standing behind Chen Liang’s mother.

He subconsciously reached to raise his handgun.

Yet he failed to notice the figure that had materialized out of thin air right behind him.

Qin Xi and Qin Song had already spotted Zhao Yuhao long ago when he drove into the residential area below.

By this point, all three members of the Chen family had been brought under their control.

They also knew that with Zhao Yuhao’s arrogant nature, he would be on guard against Qin Song.

However, he wouldn’t necessarily be on guard against Qin Xi.

After all, Qin Xi’s supernatural ability lacked offensive combat power.

Thus, Qin Song had coerced Chen Liang’s mother into responding from inside the door.

While Zhao Yuhao’s attention was fully fixed on Chen Liang’s mother, Qin Xi used her spatial teleportation to step right behind him.

Staring at the familiar figure before her, the twisted, triumphant expression on his face right before her death in their past life flashed across her mind!

Resentment surged within her. Summoning every ounce of her strength, Qin Xi swung the baseball bat down viciously at the back of his head!

With a sharp crack, Zhao Yuhao’s eyes widened in shock as his body collapsed forward into the apartment.

Before he could hit the floor, Qin Song swiftly caught him from inside and dragged him completely into the room.

Qin Xi squatted down quickly behind him, reaching out to catch the handgun before it dropped to the floor, then stepped inside as well.

The door to the fourth-floor apartment was promptly shut once more.

Inside the room, although Zhao Yuhao had been knocked down by Qin Xi, he hadn’t fallen unconscious.

Before he could even cry out for help, he—just like Chen Liang—was bound tightly into a silkworm cocoon.

Furthermore, Qin Song had dislocated both of his wrists.

This was done specifically to prevent him from channeling his supernatural ability to burn through the ropes!

Qin Xi stuffed the rag back into Chen Liang’s mother’s mouth, then raised the handgun in her grip.

The metal plate engraved with the letters “WS” inlaid on the side of the gun’s grip looked exceptionally familiar.

She looked at Zhao Yuhao, who was twisting violently on the floor in a desperate attempt to break free, and let out a cold sneer:

“This is the gun from that villa. As expected, you’ve also been reborn!”

    “Mmph! Mmph! Mmph!”

Zhao Yuhao glared at the two figures before him with bloodshot eyes.

    He had miscalculated!

It was all because of his own arrogance, because he had underestimated these two.

And also due to feelings he himself was unwilling to admit—the overwhelming terror of facing the apocalypse all on his own!

It had made him recklessly eager to find a couple of scapegoats [1] to carry the weight for him!

Qin Song took the handgun from Qin Xi’s hand and examined it.

    He remembered this gun.

In their past life, when he took Chen Liang and Zhao Yuhao along to head for Shachen to find Qin Xi, they had spent the night in a villa. The gun was something he had discovered while searching that villa.

Back then, for the sake of fairness, he had disclosed the gun’s existence to Chen Liang and Zhao Yuhao. Who could have guessed that in this life, Zhao Yuhao would actually go and claim it in advance?

At that thought, Qin Song’s palm tightened sharply around the handgun!

Something was wrong. The apocalypse hadn’t even begun yet—how could Zhao Yuhao have gotten a hold of a handgun hidden inside someone else’s home?

His dark gaze swept over the man on the floor. Meeting those eyes filled with sheer unwillingness, he deduced what Zhao Yuhao had done in an instant!

Qin Song handed the gun back to Qin Xi:

    “Keep it on you.”

    Qin Xi didn’t refuse.

Compared to Qin Song’s offensive supernatural ability, she currently lacked self-defense capabilities.

Inside the Chen family’s master bedroom.

All three members of the Chen family, along with Zhao Yuhao, were bound and tossed into a single pile by Qin Song.

As time ticked away, night fell. Outside the window, the noise of traffic, voices, and the wind faded from bustle into complete silence.

At 10:00 PM, Qin Xi’s phone suddenly vibrated several times in succession.

She originally thought it was an app advertisement notification.

To her surprise, opening it revealed a series of WeChat messages sent by Jiang Yaoyao:

“Qin Xi, you were reborn too, weren’t you? I knew you were reborn! That’s why you set me up on the high-speed train!”

“You wanted me to get bitten to death by zombies right on the train, but didn’t expect that, did you? I didn’t die [2]! I escaped!”

“HAHAHAHA! Just you wait! In our last life I could get you killed, and in this life, you’ll still be stomped under my feet!”

Qin Xi stared silently at the messages dripping with venomous hatred.

She suddenly opened her phone camera and took a photo of the people bound before her.

The blood-drenched state of Zhao Yuhao’s face was captured with utmost clarity.

She then sent the photo right back to Jiang Yaoyao:

“Don’t worry, I will definitely come looking for you as well.”

Following that message, the phone went entirely dead quiet.

    She couldn’t help but soft-chuckle.

Doesn’t even dare to reply anymore? Weak skill set, yet loves to play big? [3]

Right at that moment, a piercing, bloodcurdling shriek suddenly echoed from the residential area outside the window:

    “AAAAAHHHH!!!”

The expressions on both Qin Xi’s and Qin Song’s faces froze simultaneously.

    The apocalypse had finally arrived!

Within the midnight residential complex, shrill and panic-stricken screams erupted continuously from all directions.

The wild, demonic roars of monsters, the frantic thud-thud-thud of heavy footsteps sprinting through the stairwells, and the urgent honking of car horns below spiraled the entire world into complete chaos.

Just as Qin Xi leaned over to look down out of the window, a gruesome, agonizing scream suddenly burst out right behind her:

“AAAAHHH! AAAAHHH! Wu Weifang! Why are you biting me?!”

She spun around immediately and saw that Chen Liang’s bound mother had unexpectedly undergone a sudden mutation into a zombie as well.

The cloth gagging her mouth had been removed by Qin Song at some unknown point.

Fully mutated, Chen’s mother sank her teeth into Chen’s father, who was sitting right beside her, her face grotesque and horrifying!

Pinned beneath her, Chen’s father could only squirm and twist like a mud-bound eel out of water, utterly unable to evade her grip!

Meanwhile, Chen Liang and Zhao Yuhao alongside them had already scrambled to roll across the floor at top speed, putting as much distance between themselves and the two as possible!

The resentment on Zhao Yuhao’s face finally shattered into sheer panic!

He stared at Qin Song, his voice raspy with terror:

“Qin Song, what are you trying to do?! You can’t do this! You can’t do this! Without me, you won’t be able to establish a base at all—you can’t kill me!”

However, nobody paid him any mind.

Qin Xi and Qin Song watched with cold eyes as Chen’s mother tore through Chen’s father’s throat.

Truthfully, they hadn’t originally intended to move against Chen Liang’s parents.

Every debt has its debtor; in their past life, his parents had never harmed them.

They simply hadn’t anticipated that Chen’s mother would turn into a zombie on her own and bite Chen’s father right after!

In that case, they couldn’t be blamed!

The struggling father gradually ceased all movement.

The room became thick with the copper stench of blood.

Qin Song reached out, yanked the quilt off the bed in the master bedroom, and draped it over the body of Chen’s father, whose eyes remained wide open in unpeaceful death.

With his neck bitten through, Chen’s father would not reanimate into a zombie.

Following that, Qin Song turned his gaze to Zhao Yuhao, who had curled himself into the corner of the wall.

Meeting Qin Song’s eyes, Zhao Yuhao shook his head in absolute terror:

“No! Qin Song, you can’t do this!”

“We’ve both been reborn! Everything can start over! This time I promise I will never betray you…”

But no one wanted to hear another word from him. Qin Xi handed Qin Song a pair of heavy scissors.

Qin Song bent down, snip-severed the ropes binding Chen’s mother, and swiftly backed out of the room.

At the same time, Qin Xi materialized a chest-high storage cabinet out of thin air, wedging it firmly in the doorway.

It didn’t block line of sight, yet effectively blocked the zombie’s movement.

Having turned into a zombie, Chen’s mother had already been squirming and crawling toward Zhao Yuhao.

With the ropes cut, her movements instantly became agile and aggressive.

Zhao Yuhao’s eyes bulged to their absolute limit!

Veins popped on his forehead as he pressed his chest and knees to the floor, scrambling desperately toward Chen Liang’s direction.

Seeing this, Chen Liang quickly scrambled backward as well.

While dodging, he kicked violently at Zhao Yuhao, shoving him back toward the zombie.

Using the recoil from kicking Zhao Yuhao away, his bound body was pushed back right beneath the window.

“Chen Liang! You fucking did that on purpose!”

He heard Zhao Yuhao’s furious cursing, yet didn’t care in the slightest.

He’s just a dead man walking anyway!

Then, right as he saw Chen’s mother sink her teeth into Zhao Yuhao’s leg, he suddenly sprang up at lightning speed!
