[Ding—Congratulations Host, spending 300 Points has successfully purchased the “One-Touch Pest Control” function. This function is permanent, limited to two uses per day, non-transferable.]
Two features cost 600 Points in one go, making Qin Xi feel genuine heartache over her points.
Yet considering the physical effort saved, she felt it was completely worth it!
Having redeemed the features, she immediately performed pest control and weeding across both the cornfield and the wheat field.
She then went to inspect the three mu of rice paddies.
To plant the paddies, the ground needed to be tilled first.
Qin Xi pulled out the till-plow machine she had taken from Wu Dashan’s house.
The machine’s fuel tank still contained gas. Holding onto the handles, she found it somewhat difficult to control at first, only gradually adapting after walking forward several dozen meters.
Tilling these three mu of land took over two hours. By the time she finished, Qin Xi’s consciousness exited the system space immediately.
Pulling a cup of milk tea out of her spatial dimension, she took a large gulp.
Only when the sweet flavor entered her mouth did she feel herself recover a bit.
Off to the side, Bai Hanyue sat on the small sofa Qin Xi had brought out, flipping through a novel.
Outside, the rain pattered softly while the night grew darker; Qin Xi picked up a magazine to read as well.
Right at that moment, a rustling sound suddenly came from behind the partition.
Qin Xi raised her head immediately, seeing Lin Xin sitting up from the sofa in the back.
However, the moment he moved, the iron chain around his wrist yanked taut, nearly pulling him off the sofa.
He hurriedly supported himself against the sofa to steady his body, letting out a startled “Yikes!”
This sudden noise woke both Qin Song and Li Zekai, who had been sound asleep!
Seeing that he was awake, Li Zekai leaped off the brick kang bed-stove right away, walking up to Lin Xin.
Bending down, he observed Lin Xin’s appearance carefully for a long moment until Lin Xin felt thoroughly creeped out, only then reaching out a hand to feel his forehead.
A smile broke across his face as he turned back to look at Qin Xi and the other two:
“Fever’s gone! He’s fine—still human!”
“Pfft…”
The moment Li Zekai’s words fell, Bai Hanyue couldn’t hold it back and burst into laughter.
What kind of phrasing was that!
Although the logic made sense, hearing it out loud sounded incredibly strange.
Lin Xin was equally rendered speechless by Li Zekai’s words, though he quickly realized what had transpired. Shaking the iron chain attached to his wrist, he looked at Qin Xi and Qin Song standing at the doorway of the partition:
“What happened to me? Did I have a fever?”
Qin Xi looked at him, nodding her head:
“You had a fever and were unconscious for several hours. Feel your body right now—are there any changes?”
Lin Xin froze for a second, not quite catching Qin Xi’s meaning:
“Changes?”
Seeing Qin Song squatting before him—using his metallic supernatural ability to absorb both the wrist chain and the metal ring on the floor—he instantly understood what Qin Xi meant.
Raising both hands, he recalled how protagonists in web novels cultivated energy or used supernatural powers for the first time.
First holding his breath to focus his mind, imagining an energy current in his body flowing toward his palms, he suddenly felt an icy sensation in his hand!
Noticing this, Bai Hanyue called out in excited, hushed tones:
“It came out!”
The group then saw an egg-sized ball of ice inside Lin Xin’s palm.
Lin Xin stood dazed—it was actually real!
He genuinely possessed a supernatural ability! A superpower!
He looked at Qin Xi and Qin Song in pleasant surprise, meeting Qin Xi’s satisfied gaze. Qin Xi smiled at him and said:
“Ice-element supernatural ability. Starting tomorrow, kill more zombies and harvest crystal cores. Only by absorbing more cores can you evolve faster!”
Listening to her, he remained somewhat dazed, though he didn’t forget to nod.
Bai Hanyue looked at Lin Xin with a trace of envy in her eyes, though she quickly remembered something else and told Lin Xin:
“Food was left for you in the pot—go get it yourself!”
Hearing this, Lin Xin nodded somewhat mindlessly, though his body reacted honestly as he got up and walked out to the kitchen.
Lifting the pot lid, he carefully placed it to the side, then carried out a large bowl of red-braised pork rice bowl.
Just as he reached the doorway of the east bedroom, however, a violent THUD suddenly echoed from the house door!
The hand holding his bowl trembled, nearly dropping it onto the floor.
At the exact same time, several people inside the room charged out almost simultaneously.
“Gurgle-gurgle…“
“Gurgle…“
The distinct growls of zombies echoed clearly from outside the door, and judging by the sound, there was more than just one!
Bai Hanyue’s face turned paper-white in an instant:
“What’s going on?! How are there zombies inside the courtyard?!”
At this point, Qin Xi had already drawn her Standard Machete, holding it tightly in her grip while fixing her gaze firmly onto the door curtain hanging before the entrance to block the light. She called out to the others:
“Prepare for battle! They’re likely evolved zombies that scaled the wall to get in. Their movement speed, strength, and agility will probably be significantly higher. Stay safe—don’t wear raincoats, as they’ll hinder your movements.”
Hearing this, Li Zekai and Bai Hanyue hurriedly grabbed their weapons as well.
Seeing the situation, Lin Xin subconsciously wanted to put down his food bowl, but as he set it down, he seized the moment to shove two quick mouthfuls into his mouth.
His heart felt bitter—red-braised pork! He had been starving for half a day and hadn’t even eaten a bite yet!
Right at that moment, the sound of shattering glass suddenly erupted from the east bedroom window!
Startled, the group turned to look, seeing a zombie suddenly crash onto the floor from the direction of the window.
The movements of this zombie were indeed noticeably faster than those encountered during the day. Without struggling much, it scrambled up from the floor, but just as it was about to lunge forward, it was knocked down flat by another zombie crawling in right behind it.
Before the group could even process the sight of two zombies crashing into a heap before them, Qin Song had already used his longsword to swiftly resolve both zombies.
The growls of zombies continued echoing outside the east bedroom window, indicating more zombies were still crawling inside, whereas the noise near the main door had almost vanished entirely!
Without hesitation, Qin Xi ran straight to the front door, turned on the main incandescent light over the door, yanked the house door open, and shouted back at the others:
“Go through the main door! Stay safe, open the main courtyard gate, and get into the car immediately!”
Encountering zombies on a rainy night was the most lethal situation.
Outside, the heavy rain clattered down, her voice nearly drowned out by the downpour and zombie growls.
Yet the other three followed closely behind Qin Xi, charging straight out into the courtyard!
Stepping out of the house, they discovered that nearly ten zombies had gathered inside the courtyard without anyone noticing, with another currently climbing over the wall!
Qin Xi raised her Standard Machete, dodged a lunging zombie sideways, and delivered a vicious backhand swing!
The zombie collapsed to the ground instantly.
They were still some distance away from the main courtyard gate; although close to the zombies, there was still room to maneuver.
Fighting while retreating toward the gate, Qin Song stood slightly ahead to Qin Xi’s side, killing zombies while using metallic wire threads to retrieve the crystal cores from the heads of fallen zombies.
Just as the group reached the main gate, however, Bai Hanyue suddenly let out a panic-stricken shriek:
“AAAAAHHH!!”
