Chapter 59
by Gideon“Ugh!”
Kang Deok-ho collapsed, a ragged gasp escaping his lips as his breath hitched.
“You fucking murderer,” Yundo spat. “You should’ve known who you were up against. Did you really think I’d just let you get away with it when I knew everything?”
“You motherfucker…”
Blood trickled from Kang Deok-ho’s lips as he forced a vile smirk. “Acting all high and mighty after getting played? You fucking idiot. Everyone you ever cared about is dead, and you still want to act like you’re something special?”
Yundo refused to take the bait.
“My aunt? Don’t give me that bullshit! That woman, and Kang Ok-seon too—they were both fucking bitches. The one who beat me bloody with a leather belt every day, the one who knew I was her son and still forced me to call her ‘aunt’ until the very end… they were both the same goddamn bitch!”
Kang Deok-ho spat on the ground.
“Because of them, I can’t stand the sight of women. I’ve been waiting, planning, and plotting to make them pay for everything, and that’s how I ended up here!”
“Then why the hell are you making my father and my son pay for it?!”
“You stupid bastard. I killed your father, and Chairwoman Kang killed your son. Did you really not know that?”
Kang Deok-ho sneered, mocking Yundo with a cruel grin.
“She told me she had no use for the kid and to just get rid of him. Your grandmother is that kind of woman—the kind who only cares about her bloodline when it’s useful to her. So why the hell did you let her get pregnant?”
“Shut your mouth!”
Trembling with rage, Yundo stomped on Kang Deok-ho. Even as he choked and gasped for air, Kang Deok-ho continued to mock him, driving Yundo beyond his breaking point. In a blind fury, Yundo hoisted the heavy sofa from the head of the room.
“I said shut up, you son of a bitch!”
The door burst open, and Dong-yeong and a guard rushed in.
“Sunbae! Calm down! Please, calm down! Think of your wife!”
Yundo threw the sofa down, his breath coming in ragged gasps.
He had thought nothing could be more horrific than this, but the most terrible truth of all was still waiting to crush him.
My grandmother killed my son.
“Aaargh!”
Yundo tore through the president’s office, smashing everything in sight.
Madam Park returned to the main house with Yun-woo after receiving Yundo’s call.
“What’s so urgent? What is it?”
“Mother, please don’t be alarmed. Just listen.”
He called out to Yun-woo, who was trying to slip away.
“Yun-woo, you need to hear this too. Stay.”
“…Okay.”
Yun-woo sat beside Madam Park, glancing warily at the adults. Chief Ma stood behind Chairwoman Kang, who was seated in the place of honor on the sofa.
That disgusting man.
When Yundo turned around, the guards on standby dragged Chief Ma out.
“What is the meaning of this?”
Startled, Chief Ma struggled.
“Let go of me! What is this madness?”
Chairwoman Kang also tried to pull Chief Ma away from the guards, but it was no use. Chief Ma was dragged out without even knowing why.
“Cha Yundo! You’re getting more insolent by the day! How dare you drag my man out? Do you have any idea what you’ve just started?”
“And what about you, Grandmother? How do you plan to take responsibility for what you did?”
“What? Speak plainly!” Chairwoman Kang roared, her frustration reaching a breaking point.
Yundo ignored her, his gaze fixed on Madam Park.
“Mother, please don’t be alarmed. Hyewan’s accident was orchestrated by Kang Deok-ho on Grandmother’s orders. They wanted to force Haetsal out of the womb.”
He had hoped—prayed—he could say those words calmly. But even the mere mention of Haetsal made his voice tremble. He refused to cry in front of Chairwoman Kang. Never.
Madam Park and Yun-woo gasped in shock.
In contrast, Chairwoman Kang’s annoyance deepened, as if this were all just a nuisance. Seeing her utter lack of guilt, Yundo actually felt more at ease.
“Yundo, wh-what are you talking about?”
“You heard me.”
Madam Park turned to Chairwoman Kang with a look of disbelief. “Mother?”
“Why act surprised? I told you from the start that pregnancy was impossible.”
“Even so, Mother! He was Yundo’s son, my grandson!”
“Tsk. What good does it do to wallow in such sentimentality? How weak! I don’t want to hear another word.”
“Mother!”
“Calm down.”
Catching Yundo’s glance, Yun-woo quickly handed a glass of water to Madam Park. Yundo stared fixedly at Chairwoman Kang.
“Then do you know about this? That the shaman you trust so much has a criminal record for fraud?”
Madam Park pressed a hand to her forehead, reeling from the continuous shocks. Chairwoman Kang, however, remained unfazed.
“She is an extraordinary person. Such figures are bound to face worldly trials. One must accept such things with humility.”
“Is that so? Then is she extraordinary?”
“Of course. After all, she managed to keep this family together even after her husband and children passed away before her.”
“That child was killed by her half-sibling. Since she’s so extraordinary, she should humbly accept her own worldly trial.”
Chairwoman Kang frowned, unable to grasp his meaning.
“Hear it for yourself.”
He pressed play on the recording on his phone. The confessions of the shaman Cheon Gil-woo and Kang Deok-ho flowed out one after another. The family’s expressions grew increasingly grim.
“It’s all a lie!” Chairwoman Kang shot to her feet.
“You’d like to believe that, wouldn’t you? But it’s all true.”
“H-How… How could this…!”
Chairwoman Kang, who had never known the truth behind Cha Nam-gyun’s death, stumbled back in shock.
“The Cha family was never the problem,” Yundo declared, his voice dripping with scathing accusation. “The real culprit was you, Grandmother.”
“Why did I drag Chief Ma out of here? Because he’s an accomplice! He and Kang Deok-ho were conspiring to seize Sewon!”
Madam Park, who had heard the truth about the relationship between Chairwoman Kang and Kang Deok-ho, as well as Deok-ho’s atrocities, was so devastated she nearly fainted. Then, she suddenly sprang to her feet.
“It was all because of you, Mother!” Madam Park shrieked.
“So Yundo died young? Wasn’t that all because of your son, Mother?!” Madam Park shrieked. “You insulted me, called me a commoner… and yet you were the one who gave birth to a bastard? In the end, the curse of the Cha family wasn’t their short lives—it was you!”
Madam Park’s voice broke into a desperate wail.
“Aaaargh! My husband died because of you! You caused all of this, yet you still treated me with such contempt and hate. You criticized Yun-woo for lacking, said he took after me. But even so, Mother! Yun-woo and I still know how to act with basic human decency!”
Chairwoman Kang swayed, reeling from the shock, but her pride still flared. “You bitch, how dare you speak to me like that!”
Yundo roared, “Watch your mouth!”
“Yun-woo, help Mother inside.”
“I understand. Mom, let’s go to your room, okay? I can’t live without you.”
Madam Park hugged Yun-woo and wept.
“Please, Mom.”
She finally gave in to the tears of her youngest son, who looked just like her. Yun-woo and Jinju-daek supported Madam Park, who was too shocked to walk properly.
Meanwhile, Chairwoman Kang sat with her back straight.
“It’s all in the past. Bury it.”
“You knew what President Kang was doing all this time, didn’t you?”
“That’s not what’s important…”
Crash!
A vase Chairwoman Kang cherished flew through the air and shattered against the wall. Her eyes widened in shock at the terrifying sound.
“Right. The person who killed my father and my baby probably isn’t important. What matters to you is Sewon Group.”
A murderous aura radiated from Yundo’s entire body.
“But to me, my baby and my father are what matter. My wife matters, and my mother and sister do too!”
Just then, Dong-yeong appeared with guards in black suits.
“Follow Chief Lee. He will take you to a place where you will stay until your living arrangements are finalized.”
“Who do you think you are, telling me what to do? This is my house. I have no intention of stepping a single foot out of it!”
“Chief Lee.”
At Dong-yeong’s words, he signaled the guards.
“W-what are you doing?! Put me down!”
Despite the booming voice, the eighty-year-old woman’s frail body was carried away with ease. Chairwoman Kang was dragged out of the mansion she had commanded for a lifetime, looking utterly miserable.
The house was left in ruins, as if a typhoon had swept through it. Everything was terrible.
The night had grown deep. As they were preparing for bed, a knock sounded at the door.
“Who is it?”
Bora rose and opened the door to find Yundo standing there.
“Cha Yundo, why are you here?” she asked, her voice a low hiss to avoid alerting the other patients. Despite her efforts, she couldn’t conceal her fury.
“I came because there’s something I need to tell you.”
“What’s there to talk about between people who are completely finished? Just go.”
“It’s about the accident.”
At that, Bora glanced at Hyewan.
“There’s something Hyewan absolutely needs to know.”
Hyewan nodded, and though Bora looked displeased, she stepped aside.
